Lots of Reasons why a dental team hits their goals…

8 March 2007

Recently I was facilitating my brothers team meeting and we were reviewing their practice numbers.  For 38 consecutive months his team has met or exceeded their production and collection goals!  An amazing statistic.  When I asked them if the goal was artifically calculated too low you would have thouht I was a punching bag.  They reminded me that Dr. Scott recalculates his monthly and annual goals each year for their planning session.  Further more, they cried out, “there are reasons we have exceeded our expectations”.  When I asked them to tell me, they provided the following TIPS to their dental team success……..

  1. constant attention to “each days” schedule and goal.
  2. each team member holds themselves and each other accountable.
  3. every day they (all of the ladies & Dr.) are asking for referrals. (they have a monthly contest with great prizes)
  4. they feel strongly about having staff meetings that are relevant; positive; and that they must review the “numbers”.
  5. they love the “incentive-based” pay program.
  6. they pick up the “slack” for each other.
  7. proper diagnosis is critical and they remind the doctor to avoid “watching” too many teeth that need care.
  8. hiring the “RIGHT” people is ULTRA-CRITICAL!
  9. they can and do “vent” to Dr. Scott when needed. (Knowing my brother, he has a great ability to listen, shrug his shoulders, then move on without loosing his life balance…something his older brother does not have)
  10. they have instuted Coach Ron’s 3-Solution Rule…you can’t bring a problem to the table and drop it.  You must come to the table with as many as three solutions and your suggestion for which of the three is your choice.
  11. HERE’S A SIMPLE ONE…”we like our patients; and we like Dr. Arndt”.
  12. when there is upset among one another the agreement is to deal with the issues pronto and speak to the person using “I” messages.

All basic tenants of good business principles.  This stuff is not rocket science.  It’s all about relationships.  I’d welcome any ideas you have to enhance team success…
