Dr. Ron’s BLOG Challenge

22 October 2006

This week one of my clients called very upset as his collections have routinely been well below 90% for the past 6 months.  As you can imagine, money in the practice is now tight; staff want raises and he feels broke; his wife is concerned because their standard of living is threatened; and he wasn’t too interested in listening to the recommendations from his coach 6 months ago.  Now he feels the “pinch.”  He wanted to bring his Financial Coordinator into his office and “let her have a piece of his mind.”  When I asked him; “what kind of real training have you given her over the past 2 years” his reply was….“she has 18 years of dental experience…she should know what she is doing.”  I quickly reminded him that if we as leaders are not clear on delineating our expectations to our staff; fail to provide adequate training; and then ignor providing appropriate feedback, the outcomes will be less than stellar.  What feedback would you give my client?

  1. Sean O'Reilly Says:

Ask the financial coordinator why the collections are down and what ways she may suggest to improve them. Help her to understand why collections are important. Give her a chance to be part of the solution.
