The Ideal Employee Profile

Today, at the request of Assistant Professor, Dr. Mario Pavicic (click here to see his attractive website), I shared some hiring ideas with the Junior class at the Case School of Dentistry in Cleveland.  One of the most critical ideas I wanted the students to understand is the process or creating a clear picture (vision) of the person they want to hire.  No, I do not mean a physical picture, rather a clear idea of the personality traits; characteristics; and qualities that make up your ideal candidate. 

What I typically hear my clients say, as an example when hiring an administrative person, is they want someone with at least 15 years dental experience; knows Dentrix; can work as a team; and understands insurance.  I say to them…Good Luck!  You just narrowed your potential pool of candidates from 300,000,000 Americans to 8 in your community.  And the unfortunate challenge is of those 8, nearly all of them bring their “old” doctors way of doing things to your front desk efforts…and from my experience, these “old ways” are not a blessing to you.
