Enlightening Your Workplace and Improving Your Bottom Line

This past week as been full of coaching around “what is going to happen with the economy”; “the staff are getting restless”; how to stay focused.  These can be scary issues for many of us.  We all realize there are a lot of pressures being put on leaders (dentists) on a daily basis and yet those who remain steadfast in identifying and implementing their Vision & Values are the ones who stay the course and realize less tension in their lives and recognize greater profitability.  I’m aware much continues to be written about Vision and clarity of direction.  I suspect living through a “vision”  is a lot like Common Sense:  Dr. S. Covey identified “Common Sense as those behaviors that are uncommonly practiced.” We all know the value of written Vision and Values and yet many of us fail to take the time to articulate them.  I would like to suggest a great resource for you and your team: BUDDHA: 9 to 5.  In this book, author Nancy Spears lists many, many questions that, when answered, might be the basis for an entire transformation.  Internal to you will be answers that will address the questions I listed at the top of this post: the economy; restless staff; focus.  Here are just a few for your contemplation:

• What is the long-term vision of my practice/business?
• What is its purpose?  What impact does it have on the world?
• Does your practice encourage your team members to realize their own dreams through their employment with you?
• Describe the current climate/culture of your practice…is it positive; neutral; draining?
