Annual Goal Planning

Often, when the word “planning” is mentioned to doctors and their dental teams, often they “run for the hills” or in some cases they look like a “deer-in-the-headlights”.  I hear these kinds of comments: “I hate planning”….”it’s a waste of time”…”nothing changes”…”it doesn’t work”; oh, and this one from one of my clients took me over the top………”planning, are you kidding……we are too busy and just don’t have the time and I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

I suggested these Six Critical Questions to Ask Yourself.  Click on the link and you can download them yourself.  When my client carved out time (at his coach’s strong urging) he had an epiphany.  He discovered he was spending “major” time on “minor” things and “minor” time on “major” things.  He identified that he needed to reverse that behavior.  He had mistaken movement for achievement.  While he “thought” he was soooooooo busy what in reality was happening is that he was being “faked out” by busy.  The question was….busy doing what?  Way too many minor things that were unproductive; unprofitable; and unrewarding.  He now is in the process of PLANNING with his team for 2008 and they are having fun.

Here are some coaching questions to consider for yourself and/or with your team.  By the way, you can adapt these for your personal life as well.

• When will you take Coach Ron’s Six Critical Questions and apply to your work?
• Days are expensive.  When you spend a day you have one less to spend.  How will you plan your 2008 work days so that you spend each one wisely?
• Jim Rohn says: “never begin a day until it’s finished on paper.”  So what date will you select to plan out your business; your dreams; your life for 2008?
