Top 10 Ways to Reduce No Shows and Short Notice Cancellations

12 September 2007

On a monthly basis, for those clients who are interested, we track specific statistics in their practice.  One of those areas we track is the lost time and revenue due to patients who rudely fail to show up for their scheduled visits or call at the last minute to cancel.  What these clients are discovering is that it is costing them THOUSANDS of dollars EVERY month and it is adding to the total cost of delivering dental care.  Many doctors fail to create boundaries around their scheduling because they are afraid they might “upset” or “offend” a patient.  I say, nonsense to that.  You and your team should be outraged when patients disrespect your time….however, my discovery is that we have taught our patients that it is perfectly fine to abuse us.  Click here to download the first of a 4-part series on ideas you can implement to reduce the “bleeding” in your schedule.  For those of you who do not believe this is a problem in your practice or you want to determine how much it is costing you….simply record every lost minute due to short notice cancellations or failed appointments over the course of a month and then multiply it times your hourly production.  You will be startled.
