Your Team Will Do What YOU Do!

29 August 2007

On a recent coaching call one of my clients was upset that two of his team members were routinely late to the morning huddle.  A few minutes hear-and-there and occassionally as late as 10 minutes after the start of the meeting.  He fumed as he explained how they were so nonchelant about the whole thing.  He pointed out how the other staff was getting upset.  Here was my first coaching question:  How often are you, doctor on time for the morning huddle:  A. 100% of the time  B.  90% of the time  C.  80% of the time or D. None of the above.  Guess what he answered?  D as he was late himself more often than not!  While I was astounded I knew the solution…train yourself to become a Great Boss.  Be on time.  Hey, the team is watching YOU I advised him.  People take their cues from their boss.  If the doctor is routinely late, punctuality is not a valued value in the practice.  I encouraged him to visit my bookstore and order Jeffrey Fox’s book, How To Become A Great Boss.  You may want to visit it as well as his book  provides a simple success formula.  Click on the link above and scroll down through the selections.
